How to get to the Eastern Shore
From Halifax/Dartmouth there are three ways to get to the Eastern Shore
1. Route #207 is a continuation of Portland street that follows along the coast past Lawrencetown Beach and the Acadian communities of Grand Desert and West Chezzetcook. It merges with Route #7 at Porter's Lake.
2. Route #7 and Highway #107 are the same road leaving Dartmouth. They are a continuation of Main Street. To continue on Route #7, you must exit left at Preston. This route meanders through the historic and culturally diverse communities of East Preston and Lake Echo and then continues all along the Eastern Shore until it veers inland toward Sherbrooke village and meets with the TransCanada Highway.
3. Highway #107 continues on from Main Street in Dartmouth. It is the fastest route along the shore, but it only goes as far as Musquodoboit Harbour, where it meets Route #7.
Exit TransCanada Highway at signs for Marine Drive (Route #7). You will travel inland across the province, past historic Sherbrooke Village and then proceed along a coastal route that can lead you all the way to Halifax.
There are two ways to get to the Eastern Shore from these areas:
One takes you along major highway routes and the other follows smaller back country routes. At night, it is advised that you follow the major highway directions.
1. Major Highway - Take Route #102 (Trans-Canada) toward Halifax/Dartmouth. Keep following signs to Dartmouth (it feels like you're going straight, but the road has turned in to the #118). Look for an exit to the Eastern Shore (Route #107). Take this exit and follow road to the first set of lights (near a small strip mall and several gas stations). Turn left (on to the #107). Follow directions above from Halifax/Dartmouth.
2. Back Country Route -After leaving airport parking lot, take the first road on your left (just past Tim Horton' s). Turn left again at the second road (Grove Road). This takes you to Route #212. Turn left on to the #212. Follow the #212 until it ends at a stop sign. Turn right on to Route #357 (towards Musquodoboit Harbour).
